Job description

The Department of Economics, Econometrics and Finance of the University of Groningen is looking for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Corporate Finance.

You conduct independent research and aim to publish in high-ranked international journals. The scope of your research can be broad and may include topics such as financing and capital structure, payout policy, corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, financial intermediation, etcetera.

You have good teaching skills and are interested in developing these further. You will contribute to courses in the BSc and MSc programs offered by the Department. Moreover, you are involved in the supervision of Bachelor and Master theses.


Qualifications

To qualify, you should have:

• a PhD in Finance or Economics, or being close to completion
• research papers with the potential to be published in top-tier finance journals (or published articles in these journals)
• teaching experience and good teaching skills, preferably in finance
• a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) or the willingness to obtain this qualification
• a collaborative and positive attitude, strong communicative skills; and
• an ambition to develop an international network of professional contacts.

The Department of Economics, Econometrics and Finance (EEF) is an active research community, performing at the highest international level in terms of research and publications. Researchers in the department are active in several research themes, including corporate finance, asset pricing, corporate governance, financial history, corporate social responsibility, development finance, banking, insurance, health, ageing and pensions, econometrics, macroeconomics, behavioral and experimental economics, and industrial organization.


Conditions of employment

In accordance with the collective labor agreement for Dutch Universities, we offer:

  • a salary depending on qualifications and work experience starting from a minimum of € 3,974 to a maximum of € 5,439 gross per month (salary scale 11)
  • excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees. Favorable tax treatment may apply to non-Dutch applicants
  • a tenure track appointment for seven years, on the condition of a positive interim evaluation at the end of the third year of employment. The seventh year is to compensate for any ‘life events’ (e.g., parental leave, illness) that might take place during the first six years. Based on a positive final evaluation in the sixth year, you will receive a tenured position at the Associate Professor level. During the appointment as a tenure track assistant professor, you will have 50% research time.

We expect you to start by August/September 2023
