Technician for sustainable metals production and recycling with strong industrial and societal relevance (1 year).

As a technician for education/research you work in the fascinating world of technical science. You will have every opportunity to develop yourself and at the same time contribute to scientific research in the field of metal production and recycling. The Delft research group in this field is unique in the Netherlands. The research and education in the field of sustainable metals production metals recycling will develop strongly in the coming years, given the strong growth of social interest and significance. This position offers the opportunity to be at the center of these scientific and social developments.

What does the job involve? You support the group's scientific research and education in the field of metal production and recycling, and recycling of non-metallic materials such as polymers and composition. You are responsible for the maintenance and development of the laboratory equipment, and for keeping the safety and order in the laboratories. You optimize the use of the equipment in close consultation with the researchers of the group. In addition, you supervise students in the field of metallurgical processes at normal and high temperatures. Research and education focuses on both metal production and the rapidly developing field of recycling metals and hybrid materials.

You have a HBO education background in metal and/or chemical technology, process technology or analytical chemistry. A working experience as a lab technician for 2-3 years is required. Knowledge of and experience with metallurgical processes at high temperatures (laboratory furnaces, melting/smelting and refining of metals, metallurgical slag) and at room temperature (aqueous and organic solutions, hydrometallurgical processes and electrolysis) are an advantage in the performance of the position. You are responsible, supportive and proactive. You also have a highly developed learning capacity and you are an accurate, collaborative colleague who can plan and organize well. It is a requirement for this position that you have a good oral and written command of the Dutch and English languages. Finally, you ensure a safe working environment and contribute to the scientific work of an international team. 

  • A salary according to the Collective Labor Agreement of the Dutch Universities (salary indication: €2.979,00 - € 4.093,00 per month gross), plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
