Job description

We are searching for a lecturer in the department of Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy who can teach:

(1) an existing course on Social and Political Philosophy for first year students in the bachelor programme Philosophy;
(2) a new and more advanced course on Ethics, Social and/or Political Philosophy for bachelor students enrolled in the Honours programme in philosophy;
(3) a new master course on Ethics, Social and/or Political Philosophy;
(4) a skills course on writing a philosophical essay or thesis;
(5) bachelor thesis supervision.

Conditions:

  • the position concerns teaching only. It does not include research time
  • corona regulations permitting, teaching takes place in person.

During the courses, teaching assistants can lead seminar groups and help with administrative tasks. At the faculty, educational support is available.


Qualifications

The candidate we are looking for has:

  • a PhD in philosophy
  • in-depth expertise in ethics, social and political philosophy
  • experience in teaching at university
  • intellectual drive, enthusiasm and open-mindedness
  • excellent communication and coordination skills
  • an excellent command of Dutch and English, both in writing and in speaking.

The committee seeks to achieve a balanced composition of the departmental team with respect to gender and cultural diversity.


Conditions of employment

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

  • a salary depending on qualifications and work experience starting from a minimum of € 2,846 to a maximum of € 5,230 gross (salary scales 10 or 11) for a full-time position
  • a holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income
  • an 8.3% end-of-the-year allowance
  • a part-time position, for 0.5 FTE
  • participation in a pension scheme for employees.

The positions are fixed-term (not tenure-track) for a period of 1 year, with the possibility of partial extension. A fiscal facility pertaining to extraterritorial costs (the 30% facility) may be applicable if the rules of Dutch tax law permit this.

Starting date: 1 September 2022, at the latest
