We are looking for
Are you a chemist and do you want to teach students the 'tricks of the trade' of synthetic chemistry? As a Supervisor, you ensure a safe and agreeable working environment in our education labs, give feedback to students and contribute to the development and improvement of experiments for the various lab courses.
We are looking for a chemist who enjoys transferring synthetic knowledge and skills to students. During the year, you will be the direct supervisor of groups of students at one of our teaching labs. You will ensure a safe and agreeable working environment for these students and teach them the 'tricks of the trade' of synthetic chemistry. You will also give positive feedback on the students' preparatory work, skills and reporting and grade them on these aspects. Lastly, you will contribute to the development, improvement and testing of synthetic experiments for various lab courses.
During periods in which no regular lab courses are taught (exam periods, student holidays) you will contribute to other departmental activities: routine maintenance of equipment, ordering equipment and chemicals, testing and improving experiments, and facilitating 'afternoon labs' for high-school students. You will be expected to be assertive and proactive in your approach to students and you should be able to combine clarity with a friendly and personal attitude.
- A Bachelor's degree in chemistry from a university of applied sciences or a comparable degree.
- Experience with synthetic chemistry, or more specifically, with working under the exclusion of oxygen and water (using Schlenk glassware).
- Affinity with practical chemistry education.
- Affinity with scientific research in chemistry.
- A good command of Dutch and English, both spoken and written.
- Experience with solid-phase synthesis, flow chemistry and/or instrumental analysis is a plus.
The Faculty of Science undertakes scientific research and offers courses in the natural sciences. Education is organised in four education institutes. The Institute for Molecular Sciences is responsible for the study programmes in Chemistry, Molecular Life Sciences, and Science. Most of the courses are given in English. The Molecular Sciences teaching lab organisation is headed by the lab coordinator and organises and facilitates lab courses for students in the three study programmes mentioned above in close collaboration with staff from the research departments. In four lab courses, spread over three years, students learn to perform organic and organometallic syntheses. The level of complexity and difficulty of the experiments increases with each study year. We offer students thorough, complete and challenging training in synthetic chemistry and strongly value a personal approach.
We want to get the best out of science, others and ourselves. Why? Because this is what the world around us desperately needs. Leading research and education make an indispensable contribution to a healthy, free world with equal opportunities for all. This is what unites the more than 22,000 students and 5,000 employees at Radboud University. And this requires even more talent, collaboration and lifelong learning. You have a part to play!
