Job description

The team of Student & Career Counsellors (SCC) at the School of Business and Economics is looking for an enthusiastic colleague. The team currently consists of 8 people and is part of the Centre for Student Development & Business Relations. As a Student & Career Counsellor you inform, coach and guide students on a range of academic matters, such as study planning and skills development, orientation towards the study specialisation and career options. You also offer support to students faced with personal circumstances, which may affect their well-being and academic performance. You meet students in both individual meetings and in the context of workshops or presentations.

We expect you to contribute to the ongoing development of products and services pertaining to students’ choice of study, career advice, personal development and employability. To this end, you will cooperate with the Board of Examiners, student deans and psychologists of the Student Services Centre.

In addition, you collaborate in the development of policy proposals on a faculty and university level. Policy proposals and monitoring reports are based on qualitative and quantitative data, so a good feel for IT systems, data and strong analytical skills are necessary for this position.

Requirements

• You have a higher education degree in the field of psychology, pedagogy (or equivalent) or a minimum of two years relevant work experience in for example coaching (student’s) personal development, HR, corporate recruitment or educational policy development;

• Work experience as content creator job, development of (online) courses or similar jobs.

• Enthusiasm for online learning, eye for detail, organizational skills and creativity in developing new things.

• Experienced in using programs like Canvas, canva, qualtrics, video editing.

• Experience with (student) employability, blended advising, online modules, e-learning are an advantage;

• You have affinity with and quickly grasp the concept of automated systems. You possess strong analytical skills and have affinity with new digital technologies. You have a good command of the MS Office package;

• You know how to prioritise and plan and organize your work efficiently. You are result-oriented, pro-active, independent and flexible, be it in the context of the team or as its representative;

• You have an excellent command of English, both spoken and written;

• You understand and know how to act upon the legal and ethical rules for confidentiality, mediation and conflict management, and with respect to cultural diversity;

• You have sound networking and communication skills at the service of students, stakeholders and partners.

• You have experience in developing and providing workshops, presentations and trainings;

• Working days: Monday through Friday. You are prepared to work during evenings/weekends (only on rare occasions like Open Days).


Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: Temporarily until 1 January 2024, possibly extension after 1 January 2024.

Employment period:

Starting date 1st of November 2022. This is a fulltime (1.0 fte) position. 

The gross monthly salary mentioned is based on a fulltime appointment. The salary in this fulltime appointment will depend on your education, qualifications and relevant working experience, based on salary scale 10 (€ 2.960 - € 4.670) of the CAO NU (UFO profile Study Adviser, level 1). Each year the standard salary is supplemented with a holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%. A preliminary salary scale might apply in case the suitable candidate has yet to develop certain professional skills.

Centre for Student Development & Business Relations (CSDBR) – Student & Career Counselling

CSDBR brings together the expertise of four different offices: Student & Career Counselling, the Internship Office, the Alumni Office and Business Relations. These offices have joined forces to enrich and support the academic experience of SBE students during and beyond their studies and to strengthen relationships with alumni and external parties to co-create value for education and research and as such establish mutually beneficial connections.

SBE Student & Career Counsellors offer coaching and support to SBE students on a wide range of academic, career and personal goals during the study. In the recent academic year, we were in contact with half of our student population.
