Job description

As a specialist Open Science in Education from the University Library (UB), you will be the driving force for integrating UM Open Science policy 2022-2026 into academic education. Your focus is on creating a vision and policy for the development of support and services to enable faculty and students to implement the key points of Open Science in education. As UM contact person, you will also actively participate in national and international network meetings on developments in the field of digital learning resources, Open Education and Open Science in education.

You will be concerned with:

  • developing strategies and devising initiatives to stimulate and support the use and development of digital (open) learning resources, Open Access publications and Open Textbooks in academic education;
  • coordinating, developing and implementing (online) modules and training courses on digital (open) learning resources, Open Access publications and Open Textbooks and making an educational contribution to them;
  • identifying (inter)national investment and grant opportunities in the area of digital (open) learning resources, Open Access publications and Open Textbooks;
  • sharing knowledge, trends and developments in the field of Open Science in education, including open textbooks, open access and digital (open) learning resources and representing their interests;
  • researching and identifying the needs of authors and editors of digital (open) learning resources regarding sharing and publishing;
  • identifying and advising on investment opportunities in software or other infrastructure with respect to digital platforms;
  • developing guidelines on the implications of copyright and licensing for the use/reuse of open materials. You will do this in collaboration with UB colleagues with expertise in digital OERs.

Furthermore, you also have:

  • at least a completed master's degree, preferably in educational sciences, educational psychology or related field;
  • experience in developing (online) training or educational materials and in conducting workshops for academics;
  • experience in developing and providing services to support or enhance teaching and/or research;
  • experience in a coordinating role in collaborative projects is a plus;
  • knowledge of Open Science, Open Access and digital open learning materials is an advantage;
  • preferably a C1 level of Dutch and English.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

As a specialist Open Science in Education at the University Library, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands in beautiful Maastricht. We also offer you:

  • an interesting and challenging position for 38 hours (1.0 fte) per week;
  • space and facilities to develop yourself;
  • good working conditions. The position is classified in scale 11 in accordance with UFO profile Specialist scientific information, job level 1 with associated salary scale based on experience between € 3,974 and € 5,439 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week);
  • in addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply;
  • in addition to good primary employment conditions, UM also offers a good package of secondary employment conditions. You can think of: flexible working hours, 232 holiday hours per year with a full-time appointment, a good pension scheme, the option of working from home where a home workplace is facilitated, making use of sports facilities, parental leave and collective labor agreement à la carte;
  • an appointment will initially be temporary for a period of 1 year with a size of 1.0 fte. In case of proven suitability, the appointment for this position will be converted into an employment contract for an indefinite period.
