Job description

The Institute of Data Science (IDS), part of the Department of Advanced Computing Sciences at Maastricht University is recruiting a software developer to its growing research and development team as part of a new Horizon Europe project. The software developer will be responsible for developing new systems, methods, and specifications to discover, analyze, and use knowledge graphs.

Responsibilities include:

• Import, clean, and convert large data sets into knowledge graphs using semantic technologies;
• Develop APIs using the OpenAPI specifications, and supporting RDF data processing;
• Work with project stakeholders to design, development, deploy and evaluate software solutions;
• Provide project management support including developing a detailed project plan and project schedule with tasks lists, durations, and assignment of resources;
• Prepare presentations and reports that accurately convey the work done;
• Provide support for training other developers and researchers;
• Provide consultation and assistance to project and Institute staff and students;
• Provide teaching assistance in tutorials and courses.

Requirements

• Master degree in computer science, computational biology, data science or any analytical field;
• Proficiency with graph and/or relational databases and ETL workflows;
• Effectively use your preferred programming language (preferred languages Python, JavaScript, TypeScript and Java);
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

Ideally you should also have experience with:

• Automated data extraction, imputation, and analysis;
• FAIR data management;
• Semantic web technologies and standards, e.g.  RDF, OWL, SHACL, ShEx, SPARQL, SKOS;
• Graph-based data systems;
• FHIR and other Common Data Models.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

The full-time position is position is initially offered for one year, subject to evaluation and funding, the position is eligible for extension. Salary is competitive, and will be set in scale 10, of the collective labour agreement of the Dutch Universities (between € 2.960 and € 4.670 gross per month) depending on qualifications and work experience for a full-time job (38 hours/week). On top of this, there is an 8% holiday and an 8.3% year-end allowance. Non-Dutch applicants could be eligible for a favourable tax treatment (30% rule).
