To contribute to energy-efficient, innovative and competitive greenhouse horticulture? Then we have an interesting position for you at Plant Research location Bleiswijk!”
As Senior Researcher Cultivation and Crop Management of Greenhouse Horticultural Crops, you play a leading role in research into integral sustainable cultivation of vegetables and ornamental crops under glass. From a solid plant physiological basis you will work on the innovation and improvement of the cultivation of plants in greenhouses. , where you will work integratively on all aspects of cultivation. For example, the response of crops to the greenhouse climate, energy-efficient lighting and dehumidification. But also the use of digitization in crop management and making cultivation systems more resilient by design. You will also contribute to the cultivation of new crops and new cultivation systems for new applications.
Your duties and responsibilities
You will be involved in the following, among other things:
  • Acquiring multidisciplinary projects, including Public-Private Partnership projects.
  • Maintaining contacts with companies and organizations in the sector and the government.
  • Involving stakeholders in research projects.
  • Leading (multidisciplinary) projects and supervising (junior) researchers.
  • Presenting research results to clients and target groups; both through trade journals and presentations for the sector and through scientific articles and presentations at academic conferences.
  • Acting externally as an expert on behalf of the organization, both nationally and internationally;
  • Contribute to the research agenda of the team and business unit.

Requirements
You are an enterprising and creative researcher with good communication skills. You cooperate well with others, both internally and externally, and you have effective project management skills.
Relevant education at MSc or PhD level, for example horticulture, plant sciences or biology.
  • At least seven years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of plant cultivation, preferably in greenhouses. Broad interest in cultivation and cultivation aspects such as greenhouse climate, plant pathology and horticultural technology.
  • Proven experience in leading (complex) research projects.
  • Proven acquisition experience.
  • Familiar with the greenhouse horticulture sector, have a relevant network.
  • Affinity with working in a contract research organization.
  • Good command of the Dutch and English language.
  • Driving License B.

Conditions of employment
Wageningen University & Research offers excellent terms of employment . A few highlights from our Collective Labour Agreement include:

Of course, the job comes also with a suitable salary. Depending on your experience, we offer a market-based salary of up to € 6.229,- for a full working week of 36 hours in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement Wageningen Research (scale 12). An appointment of 32 hours per week is negotiable.
Initially, we offer you an annual contract, which will be extended to a contract for an indefinite period of time if there is mutual enthusiasm. Of course we would be happy to discuss this with you if you have any questions.

Your work environment
In the crop management and cultivation team, more than 20 researchers work on all kinds of aspects of the cultivation of greenhouse crops and flower bulbs. For example, new cultivation systems for both greenhouse horticultural crops and flower bulbs are designed and tested, where cultivation takes place without natural gas and without the emission of chemical crop protection agents and fertilizers. And in which the application of state-of-the-art technology in the field of robotization and digitization is investigated.
