Scientific Programmer Developing Data Exchange Prototypes

The Multiscale Networked Systems (MNS) is one of the research group at the Informatics Institute (IvI) of the University of Amsterdam (UvA). The MNS group conducts research on leading-edge computer systems of all scales, ranging from global-scale systems and networks. Across these multiple scales our particular interest is on extra-functional properties of computer systems, such as performance, reliability, programmability, productivity, trustability.

The research will take place in close collaboration with the KPMG, and a number of hospitals like the Antonius Ziekenhuis, UMC Utrecht, VUmc  partners in the project, where expertise and experimental facilities, AI and analytics, and data management and data transfers.

The MNS group invites applications for a fully funded scientific programmer in the area of secure data sharing architectures. The programmer will be embedded and contribute to the recently awarded EPI NWO project


What are you going to do

The scientific programmer will specifically focus on implementing the software infrastructure needed to enable the personalized interventions in various health application, through a shared data infrastructure, allowing for machine learning combining this and other data sources to generate better knowledge on effective interventions. This position is defined in the context of a personalized digital health twin, the candidate will collaborate and interact with researchers at universities and health professionals.


What do we require
  • A BSc or MSc degree in computer science, software engineering, with 3-5 years of experience
  • Demonstrable experience as a (scientific) programmer and/or as a system engineer working on distributed, container and cloud solutions
  • Basic knowledge in Machine learning
  • strong programming skills preferably Rust, Typescript, Python;
  • The ability to write technical reports, user software guides’ guide, and software documentation
  • An interest in the research process and in engaging with research outcomes and innovative solutions
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • The ability to work independently as well as within a team

Our offer

A temporary contract for 38 hours a week, preferably starting on 1 Novovember 2021.

The salary, depending on relevant experience before the beginning of the employment contract, will be €2,790 to €4,402 (scale 10) gross per month (Ontwikkelaar ICT 3), based on a fulltime contract (38 hours a week). This is exclusive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. A favourable tax agreement, the ‘30% ruling’, may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities is applicable.
