Researcher (Postdoc) in Transport Geography and Disaster Resilience

Updated: over 1 year ago
Job Type: Temporary
Deadline: 23 Oct 2022

All over the globe, societies are increasingly becoming aware of risks for high-impact changes that are unprecedented in human history. These changes usually have complex causes that are hard to disentangle and also hard to describe and model. In this situation, we are keen to develop analytical techniques that help to forecast how those high-impact changes cause disruptions, and how such disruptions are subsequently best addressed. We are especially interested in improving our understanding of transport system functions and how these behave in response to disruptions.

Your objective will be to assess the vulnerability of transport networks to different disaster scenarios and to help increase their resilience through upfront analysis, following up work done for a FAO study.

Expected directions for continued work are:

  • Improving efficiency and performance of modelling transports networks using heterogeneous (big) geodata and geospatial analysis
  • implementation of the research outcomes for designing scenarios of disaster preparedness and mitigation
