Offer Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic research technician with talent for tissue engineering and biochemistry. Do you have interest in generating heart and muscle models from patient's skin cells and use them to investigate the molecular mechanisms of rare diseases? Then join us in our state-of-the-heart laboratory, where we combine cutting-edge analytical technologies and advanced tissue models to understand rare metabolic cardio-/myopathies and find potential treatments.

This position offers the opportunity to enrich your technical skill-set while working in an international, dynamic and goal-driven team, focused on the study of rare metabolic disorders. The team is hosted at the Translational Metabolic Laboratory (TML, RadboudUMC), an interdisciplinary department that combines research and diagnostics, which provides the ideal setting for translational projects with potential to significantly impact patients' healthcare.

This position is part of a national, multi-center project funded by the Prinses Beatrix Spierfonds, focused on bridging -OMICS technologies and 2D/3D-muscle and -heart models to develop a novel platform for preclinical treatment discovery targeting rare cardio-/myopathies. This project represents a collaborative effort led by the RadboudUMC (TML, Nijmegen), and involving the ErasmusMC (Dept. of Pediatric Metabolic Diseases, Rotterdam) and the University of Twente (Dept. of Applied Stem Cell Technologies, Enschede).

As our research technician, you will:

  • Provide support for the culture and maintenance of human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) derived from healthy donors and patients affected by rare congenital cardio-/myopathies.
  • Implement protocols to differentiate control and patient-derived hiPSCs into muscle and heart cells.
  • Develop qPCR- and immunofluorescence-based protocols for characterization of heart and muscle models.
  • ontribute to the molecular profiling of control and patient-derived muscle and heart models via mass spectromtery-based -OMICS (metabolomics, proteomics).
