Research Data Steward for the Faculty of Science and Technology

Updated: about 1 month ago
Deadline: 24 Mar 2024

We are looking to expand our team with a new research data steward for the faculty of Science and Technology (TNW). The faculty of Science and Technology engages some 700 staff members and 2000 students in education and research on the cutting edge of chemical technology, applied physics and biomedical technology. The fields of application include sustainable energy, process technology and materials science, nanotechnology and technical medicine.

The University of Twente assigns high priority to Research Data Management, the handling of research data during the entire research process, and to making this data FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable). The context of the RDM policy at the UT is formed by regulations regarding Open Science, the new code for scientific integrity and FAIR data. Research data stewards support researchers with all parts of RDM such as a data management plan, data collection, data storage, data publication and long term data archiving.

As a research data steward, you will also be part of the Digital Competence Centre (DCC): an innovative university-wide network of expertise on Open Science, RDM, ICT for Research, and digitalization of science. You will be part of the support team in TNW for the Research Data Management Bootcamp courses of the UT, which are designed to introduce PhD students and researchers to the concept of RDM. As part of this course, you will help participants to fill out data management plans.

Furthermore, you will be participating in central DCC initiatives to further the implementation of RDM services at the UT. The Research data steward will help to shape available and new research services together with the ICT account managers of the Library, ICT Services & Archive (LISA) and the research support staff at the faculties.

Your tasks

  • you actively work on raising RDM/FAIR data awareness among researchers and students;
  • you support researchers and students with their RDM, on all parts;
  • you assist researchers and research groups in translating the UT and TNW RDM policies into the daily practice of their work;
  • you can take a user's perspective and are able to identify and represent RDM needs ;
  • you take the initiative in establishing short and long-term contacts with researchers to discuss RDM/FAIR data matters;
  • you can translate questions from researchers and students into possible new services and advise project teams on this;
  • you provide training in the field of RDM/FAIR data tailored to research needs;
  • you follow (inter)national developments in the RDM/FAIR data field, keep abreast of new tools and software and you consider whether and how you can use these to benefit researchers.
