Job description

To strengthen our team in the division 7.1 "Building Materials" in Berlin-Steglitz, starting 01.11.2022, we are looking for a research assistant (m/f/d) in the field of civil engineering, materials science or comparable.

Your responsibilities include:

Research assistant for conducting the research project: "Functionalization of surfaces 2.0: Building facades covered by algal biofilms for improving air quality and urban climate" (AbifFa):

  • Conception and planning of experiments
  • Manufacturing of concrete samples
  • Design of weathering experiments including irrigation technology
  • Analysis and interpretation of data
  • Writing of reports and scientific publications
  • Presentation of the results at conferences

Requirements

Your qualifications:

  • Successfully completed scientific university studies (diploma or master's degree) in civil engineering, materials science or comparable
  • Focus on cementitious materials and corresponding methods of mechanical testing and analysis
  • Experience in concrete production
  • Knowledge of chemical and mineralogical methods (polarization microscopy, SEM, TEM, XRD, DTA) are desired
  • Very good knowledge of professional and technical English
  • Knowledge of German is desired
  • Interest in interdisciplinary work
  • Good communication and information behaviour, goal-oriented and structured way of working
  • Ability to work in a team/willingness to cooperate, initiative/commitment
  • Conceptual, strategic and innovative thinking skills

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: Temporary contract until 31.01.2024.
