Research Assistant in Virtual Reality for Pain Management (0.4 FTE, 12 months)

VR4ER is funded under the WeCare scheme and aims to explore the use of VR as an adjunctive pain management technique in the Emergency Room. The project is a collaboration between the Department of Cognitive Science & Artificial Intelligence (CSAI) at Tilburg University, and the Elisabeth-TweeSteden Ziekenhuis (ETZ) hospital emergency room (ER) department.


The work will be centred around the technological and human-computer interaction (HCI) aspects of the project, and the successful candidate will be based primarily within the university under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Wendy Powell. The role will involve some visits to the local (ETZ) hospital during the course of the project. 


Job Description

  • Support the clinical research studies 
  • Develop and conduct VR/HCI research 
  • Co-author peer-reviewed journal or conference paper(s)
  • Present project information at team meetings or workshops
  • Oversee the acquisition and deployment of the VR-related project equipment
  • Instruct the ER partners in the use of the equipment
  • Participate in other project-related activities as required

You will be contracted to an average of 16 hours per week for these tasks. Flexibility in working hours is possible and can be discussed.
