The Office of the University supports the Board of the University in matters of teaching and research policy. Within the Strategy Department of Education & Research, the Section Education and Students is devoted to the development of education policy, - strategy and the quality assurance of education within the UG. Among others, the section deals centrally with, for example, the Institutional Audit and coordinates centrally the Summer & Winter Schools.

Summer & winter schools bring bright students and inspired researchers together to work intensively on important topics. In addition, summer & winter schools are an excellent instrument for educational innovation, attracting talented (PhD) students and staff, profiling the (re)masters programmes, and for intensifying our cooperation with important (international) partners and external stakeholders.

The UG summer & winter schools attract around 1500 students from more than 110 countries. The Summer & Winter School Office (SWSO) facilitates academic organizers of these short courses, both logistically and financially. In a decentralized approach, in which Faculties initiate schools and decide and coordinate on content, the SWSO provides organisational support (marketing, website, applications, payments, evaluations, social programme etcetera). In addition, the SWSO offers support and advice to the academic organizers.
