About the TU/e
Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e)

is an internationally leading technical university specialized in Engineering Science & Technology. The TU/e organization comprises 9 faculties and 10 services that support the primary process of teaching and research. With high-quality education and research, TU/e ensures the advancement of technical sciences and the development of technological innovations. In this way, TU/e contributes to the growth of prosperity and well-being in the Brainport region and beyond. TU/e is all about people. Around 13,000 students and 4.000 employees live, work and recreate on campus.

TU/e's strategic activities in the field of research, educational innovation, valorization and entrepreneurship attract national and international attention. The research institutes EAISI, EIRES, EHCI and also The Gate and TU/e innovation Space have a high degree of appeal within this. This manifests itself, among other things, in a steadily growing number of visitors and visiting delegations to the campus.

About TU/e innovation Space:

TU/e innovation Space occupies a special position at TU/e. It is the center of expertise for Challenge Based Learning (CBL) and Entrepreneurial Learning, and a learning hub where students in interdisciplinary teams co-create responsible solutions to real-world challenges together with researchers, industry, and societal organizations.  We develop them to become engineers of the future.

Addressing the increasing complexity of global societal challenges, TU/e innovation Space has become an essential player in advancing systemic approaches to both social and technology-driven innovation. This hub is dedicated to enhancing the learning experience of students in CBL, both curricular and extracurricular, by building valuable and long-term connections with companies, societal, and governmental organizations. These collaborations are key to creating real impact and addressing the complex challenges faced by societal and industrial stakeholders.

About EIRES:

The Eindhoven Institute for Renewable Energy Systems (EIRES) is a young institute, launched in 2020, accelerating the energy transition. EIRES drives the energy transition by stimulating excellence and generating societal impact. This will accelerate the transition to a CO2 neutral energy infrastructure. EIRES bridges the work of researchers, with proven scientifical excellence, to the societal and industrial partners. Creating a community open to researchers, student teams, entrepreneurs, and startups working on renewable energy and climate impact topics. They have dedicated communities on topics like Hydrogen, Batteries, Iron Power, Heat in the Built Environment, and Future Chemistry. They work interdisciplinary to come to the radical system changes we need to meet the net zero 2050 target.

TU/e and the Brainport region have unique strengths in high-tech systems and materials. EIRES leverages these strengths to develop and swiftly deploy modular, smart, and scalable systems for energy generation, conversion, and storage. EIRES also explicitly pays attention to the integration of these systems in the more decentralized, multi-energy carrier system of the future.

Currently 140 permanent researchers are members of EIRES, with diverse disciplinary backgrounds, e.g., in physics, chemistry, mechanical and electrical engineering, or innovation sciences. Next to that, 450 PhD students and 12 excellent student teams are EIRES members. They provide the students with academic coaching, shared space, grant writing support, and network access. Their intensive coaching by excellent researchers and mission driven focus resulted in over two energy/climate tech startups each year, for example Rift (metal fuels, Breakthrough Energy prize winner), DENS (hydrizine-based generators), ELEO (battery systems), and Lightyear (solar modules for vehicles).
