Job description

The position is embedded within the Center for Quantum Materials and Technology Eindhoven (QT/e) and is part of the new launched program by Quantum Delta NL. QT/e is one of the five innovation hubs in Quantum Delta NL, whose global objective is accelerating the uptake of quantum technologies for a diverse range of applications. Such applications include the quantum computing and quantum simulation platform Quantum Inspire, secure communication and information access, partially in the National Quantum Network, and quantum sensing applications.

Quantum Eindhoven

The Center for Quantum Materials and Technology Eindhoven (QT/e)  is at the heart of the quantum technology hub in the high-tech Brainport ecosystem, where implementation of quantum-enabling technologies is a priority. Its mission is to perform fundamental and applied research to push the boundaries of quantum materials and technology development and to develop novel methods, applications, and devices to the benefit of society.

Major companies such as ThermoFisher are stakeholders in quantum technologies, but small start-ups like TeraNova, NanoPhab, EFFECT Photonics and SMART Photonics also contribute to this field. These partners provide critical infrastructure data, develop THz technology for contact-free characterization of the electrical properties of semiconductors, provide nanofabrication services, deliver highly integrated optical communications products, and much more.

QT/e performs cutting-edge research by harnessing expertise and infrastructure in applied physics, mathematics and computer science, and electrical engineering in 11 research groups at Eindhoven University of Technology. The focus is on quantum simulation and (hybrid) quantum computing, post-quantum cryptography, quantum protocols, quantum nanophotonics and quantum materials & devices. QT/e aims to train the quantum engineers and quantum information specialists of the future.

Quantum Eindhoven is also one of the five hubs of Quantum Delta NL ( ), the national initiative that combines all quantum efforts in the Netherlands (including universities in Delft, Leiden, Amsterdam, Enschede and Eindhoven), with the aim of developing an ecosystem. A team is in place to support and develop this ecosystem, focusing on place, people and partnering.

The activities include:

  • You are the point of contact for QT/e towards companies and social partners and other Quantum Delta NL stakeholders.
  • You proactively collect questions from the business community about quantum applications and based on this you efficiently establish the connection with the researchers.
  • You help to start new projects and build consortia together with the relevant knowledge institutions.
  • You keep your eyes open for new partners, themes and financing options. You assist in proposal writing and management.
  • You are the point of contact for Quantum Eindhoven in strategic consultations on important themes, such as post quantum cryptography, quantum protocols, quantum computing and simulation, quantum nanophotonics, materials and devices, quantum sensing and use case development on these themes.
  • You maintain close contacts with the partners of QT/e and with relevant parties in the Brainport Region including the local government, and at the national and international level.
  • You are also the representative of QT/e and Quantum Eindhoven in the national valorization team of Quantum Delta NL.

Job requirements

The candidate will be responsible for setting up a business development strategy for Quantum Eindhoven with QT/e at its hart, executing it and monitoring its achievement. This will be achieved in close collaboration with researchers at QT/e and other members and stakeholders in Quantum Eindhoven and Quantum Delta NL. The candidate will play a key role in advancing the uptake of quantum technologies by industry, creation and landing of start-ups.

We are looking for excellent candidates that meet the following requirements:

  • Fascination and/or experience around quantum physics and enabling technologies
  • Experienced in research and innovation projects (eco-system building, grant acquisition ..)
  • An ability to work both independently and within a small team; simultaneously managing multiple projects
  • Previous experience in community building (online & offline), developing communication plans and tools
  • A feeling for the environment in which you work and the various interests that play a role there
  • You have a master’s or PhD degree level and at least 2 years of experience in a similar position.

Conditions of employment

We offer a fulltime (1.0 fte) employment position with a gross month salary in the range of € 2.790 and € 5.826 (scale 10–12) based on your degree and previous experience. Besides that,
we offer an annual holiday allowance of 8%, an annual end of the year bonus of 8,3%, a total of
41 days of paid holiday leave and a broad package of fringe benefits (including an excellent technical infrastructure, savings schemes, child care and excellent sports facilities).
