Are you interested in working for a university research centre? Do you have organizational and project management skills? The “Conflict & Society” RPA (Research Priority Area) of the University of Amsterdam is looking for a program manager. The C&S RPA is an interdisciplinary research centre based in the faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (FMG) which has received funding for the period 2024 - 2028. The C&S RPA is directed by Dr. Abbey Steele and Dr. Alessandro Nai. The office of the C&S RPA is hosted by the Amsterdam Center for Conflict Studies (ACCS) within the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR).

What are you going to do

The Program Manager works collaboratively with the RPA co-directors under the supervision of the AISSR management. In this role, you will provide crucial support for the day-to-day administrative functions of the C&S RPA. Your responsibilities encompass a diverse range of tasks, including liaising with ACCS and AISSR management, managing research grants, and facilitating communication with RPA members and affiliates.

Additionally, you will play a key role in organizing travel arrangements and accommodations for research visits and guest speakers, ensuring smooth logistics for various events. Your involvement extends to maintaining and enhancing the RPA's online presence by updating its website with event announcements and project information.

Moreover, you will handle general administrative duties, manage the C&S RPA mailing list, and promptly address internal and external information requests. Your role also involves coordinating meetings for the C&S RPA Management and meticulously documenting meeting minutes.

In essence, as the Program Manager, you will serve as a linchpin in the efficient functioning of the C&S RPA, contributing significantly to its success and effectiveness in advancing research and academic endeavors.

The ideal candidate for the Program Manager position possesses a diverse skill set and attributes crucial for effectively supporting the C&S RPA. This individual demonstrates excellent written and oral proficiency in both Dutch and English, enabling seamless communication with stakeholders. Additionally, they exhibit a strong command of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, essential for efficiently carrying out administrative tasks.

Moreover, the candidate is well-versed in organization and communication, facilitating smooth coordination and dissemination of information within the RPA. They display a proactive approach and are capable of working independently, taking initiative to address tasks promptly. Furthermore, flexibility is a key trait, as the candidate is willing to occasionally work evening events as required.

Ideally, the candidate brings prior experience in managing university projects, offering valuable insight and expertise in navigating academic environments. Overall, the candidate's linguistic proficiency, technical competency, organizational skills, proactive attitude, and flexibility make them well-suited for success in the Program Manager role within the C&S RPA.

What can we offer you

The position would be temporary employment of 15.2 hours for a 1-year appointment with possibility of an extension, upon suitability, for up to 2 years, following a positive assessment after a two-month probation period and barring unforeseen organizational developments.

Depending on your experience, the minimum salary is €3,072 to €4,103 gross per month based on a 38-hour working week, Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities .

We additionally offer an extensive package of secondary benefits, including 8% holiday allowance and a year-end bonus of 8.3%.

The Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR) within the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences (FMG) focuses on research from a historical, comparative, and empirical perspective on the formation and operation of contemporary societies in mutual interplay. The research institute combines the departments of Political Science, Geography, Planning & International Development Studies, Sociology, and Anthropology. The AISSR provides a doctoral training program for PhD candidates and is an organization for high-quality research, as evidenced by a clear scientific mission and qualitatively good research programs, where national and international research groups collaborate on socially important themes.
