We are looking for a Program Director to join QuTech and lead the Quantum Inspire program. Quantum Inspire is the QuTech demonstrator for quantum computing, the only European quantum computer in the cloud, accessible for anyone. As a Program Director you are the figurehead of Quantum Inspire on a strategic level. You orchestrate the relations of Quantum Inspire within the national and European quantum ecosystem and stimulate new collaborations, together with the QuTech business development team and the technical leads.
Furthermore, you:
- Are the chair of the program management team, responsible for internal collaboration and alignment between the TNO and TU Delft staff working in the various research and engineering projects.
- Develop Quantum Inspire’s strategy and translate it in a plan of action connected to the strategy of QuTech and aligned to the national quantum computing demonstrator program of Quantum Delta NL.
- Manage relations towards the internal and external funders.
- Ensure that a clear communication strategy for promoting Quantum Inspire is developed and executed.
The Quantum Inspire management team contains of, besides you as chair, the main academic and systems engineering leads (‘technical leads’) and the operational leads. As a team you report to the QuTech Board of Directors.
You are a senior program manager with at least ten years of experience, navigating complex R&D projects with many stakeholders, and ready to take the next step in your career. You are an empathetic people manager who leads by example and has experience in managing a multicultural team with different organizational backgrounds. As an expert in your field, you are decisive, initiating, tactful, and driven and you’re able to think conceptually and out of the box. You’re a natural networker and connector of opposites.
You have:
- An academic background in either physics, mathematics or (software) engineering, ideally with an emphasis on quantum research.
- Practical experience in strategy development and business development.
- Affinity with large multidisciplinary R&D and ability to keep the overview of different disciplines.
- Good communication skills in English, both orally and in writing.
- Experience in working in one of QuTech’s mother organizations (TU Delft or TNO), or similar research and engineering environment is a plus.

- A position for 38 hours per week (0.8 - 1.0 fte).
- An employment contract for one year with a view to a permanent position.
- Flexible working hours and the possibility to work hybrid (home/office).
- A salary according to the CAO Dutch Universities scale 13-14 (from € 5.506 gross to € 7.362 gross per month based on 38 hours per week), plus 8% vacation allowance and a year-end bonus of 8.3%.
- Up to 41 vacation days per year based on full-time employment.
