Do you aim to create a societal impact with your research and teaching on processes of inclusion and exclusion? Then contribute your extensive experience as a professor of sociology. With your clear vision, you can have a lasting impact on cutting-edge research ideas and plans as well as the development and innovation of education within the sociology department.
Radboud University is seeking a new full Professor of Sociology with a profile in processes of inclusion and exclusion. This is one of three Chairs in the Department of Sociology, next to the Chairs of Social Inequality and Family Sociology. Your focus of research and teaching will be on the interplay between inequality and cohesion regarding processes of inclusion and exclusion. More concretely, your research will enhance the understanding of the social (e.g. intergroup contacts), cultural (e.g. religion and attitudes regarding gender roles and moral issues), political (e.g. participation in political institutions), and economic (e.g. educational and labour market outcomes) integration of minority groups in the Netherlands in a comparative perspective. Your research might be directed to inclusion and exclusion of migrants and children of migrants in Dutch society, but could also relate to the acceptance of other minority groups in specific contexts. Methodologically, you should be qualified in advanced statistical techniques, but also be open to qualitative and mixed methods of data collections as in experiments, in-depth interviews, fieldwork, and focus groups.
You will deliver high-quality, innovative and impactful teaching in both undergraduate and graduate Sociology courses and in the Research Master's programme in Social and Cultural Sciences. You will be involved in the development and innovation of education at both course and programme level, as well as in the preparation of evaluation reports for external reviews and accreditation procedures. Also, we expect you to coordinate the methods and statistics curriculum in our programmes and to participate in the methodological and statistical working group of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
As a professor you will conduct high-quality research with impact and will supervise research conducted by PhD candidates and other staff members. In addition, you will contribute to a further reinforcement and expansion of the Department's research programme. You will also play an active role in, and contribute to, the interdisciplinary research programme of the Radboud Social Cultural Research Institute (RSCR), in which the disciplines of sociology, gender and diversity studies, and anthropology and development studies cooperate. In this capacity you will actively seek to build bridges between different disciplines in the social sciences by developing joint research and PhD projects within the Faculty and beyond. Responsibilities also include attracting research projects based on external funding.
It is important that your research has societal impact and that you can translate scientific knowledge to the general public as you will be active in societal debates and discussions. You will cooperate with societal partners in the co-creation of practical knowledge.
You will take a fair share in management, organisation and leadership tasks within the Department of Sociology, Radboud Social Cultural Research Institute, Faculty of Social Sciences, and Radboud University. You will be expected to promote an attractive, productive, inclusive and safe work environment and to stimulate talent development and team spirit. Endorsing the new policy on Recognition & Rewards is essential for this Chair in performing academic leadership.
