Job description

Are you passionate about the Frisian language and culture? Do you have a track record in research, in higher education, and in leadership in an academic environment? Are you willing to join our academic community in Groningen and manage our research group on Frisian Language and Culture? And do you enjoy conducting research that shows how the Frisian language stands in relation to the growing multilingualism in our society? Then you might be our next Professor of Frisian Language and Culture at the University of Groningen.


Qualifications

Who are we looking for? A candidate who:

● has a strong national and international profile, and holds a PhD in one of the subfields of Frisian Studies
● has an excellent research reputation, as demonstrated by publications that are relevant to the profile of the chair
● has experience in successfully applying for research funding from national and/or international funding bodies
● has developed their own line of research within the spectrum of Frisian Studies as described above
● has excellent teaching skills, an innovative vision on inter- and multidisciplinary teaching, and extensive experience with teaching and performing administrative tasks in Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes
● is highly experienced with successfully supervising PhD students
● contributes to and leads the development of curricula in the field of Frisian Studies (including education for professionals) as well as other relevant degree programmes within the University of Groningen
● is able to maintain good contacts with the Province of Fryslân/Dutch Government as major stakeholders
● has a relevant strategic network, both internationally and nationally
● has a sound vision on and proven experience with creating societal impact, and initiates and participates in activities aimed at cooperating with social partners and disseminating academic knowledge to a wider audience
● has good communication skills and is a result-oriented team player
● has proven excellent leadership and organizational skills
● is capable and experienced with acting in a politically sensitive environment
● is fluent in Frisian and Dutch or English (level C1 of the CEFR).


Organisation

The University of Groningen and the Faculty of Arts recently formulated a new Strategic Plan for the coming five years, with a focus on research, societal impact, and the further development of innovative learning (active and blended learning). Conditions of employment

The appointment is at the level of Full Professor with a gross monthly salary, depending on qualifications and work experience, of between € 5,864 and a maximum of € 8,539 (salary scale H2 in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch universities, CAO NU) for a full-time position. In addition, you will receive an 8% holiday allowance and a year-end bonus of 8.3% of your annual salary.
