Professor in Vascular and Pulmonal inflammation

The Research Unit of Cancer and Inflammation , Department of Molecular Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark invites applications for a position as professor in Vascular and Pulmonal Inflammation.

The successful candidate preferably holds an MD and a PhD or equivalent within biological sciences. Applicants with research interests that complement the on-going research within the department will be preferred. The teaching commitment will be in Molecular Medicine as specified below. The candidate must be able to supervise and support medical and PhD research students.

Research profile and tasks

The main task will be to establish and head a group that can strengthen biomedical and experimental research in the field of Vascular and Pulmonal Inflammation at the University of Southern Denmark. A strong record of publications and external funding is required.

A profile in which translational research is part of the portfolio will be preferred. A close collaboration with the nearby Odense University Hospital, which is the major hospital in the region (population base of 1,5 million), will be encouraged. A formal association with Odense University Hospital might be an option. Other potential collaborators are research groups at the Faculty of Natural Sciences among leaders in proteomics, organic chemistry and membrane physics. Likewise, collaboration with other groups within the Department of Molecular Medicine will be encouraged.

Teaching commitments

The teaching commitments will be in immunology, physiology, pharmacology, biochemistry, anatomy or neurobiology depending on the applicant’s specialties, and the successful applicant will be responsible for teaching of medical and natural science students at the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Natural Sciences for a limited number of hours. The candidate will be expected to mentor master and PhD students.

Teaching qualifications

Potential applicants will be expected to possess teaching qualifications at associate professor or professor level.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
