Postdoctoral researcher/scientist in tick-borne disease research

Updated: about 2 months ago
Job Type: Temporary
Deadline: 29 Sep 2021

TropIQ Health Sciences is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join our team of scientists focused on the discovery of new interventions for vector-borne infectious diseases. The postdoc will support TropIQ’s research on tick-borne disease, with a focus on Lyme disease. The fellow will establish tick models for identification of novel acaricides on their ability to interrupt transmission of Borrelia. The fellowship has an initial duration of 2 years.

Tasks and responsibilities
The project aims at establishment of a novel research pipeline focussed on discovery of drugs that block transmission of tick-borne disease and Borrelia in particular. The fellow will use Anopheles mosquitoes as a sentinel organism in a high throughput screen of a chemical library to identify compounds with cidal activity. To test their activity against ticks, the fellow will establish artificial membrane feeding assays and evaluate dose and time dependent killing effects. In addition, the fellow will set up membrane-feeding technology to study transmission of Borrelia. The fellow will be responsible for design and execution of the experimental work and reporting of project progress both internally as well as to external partners.
