Offer Description

Are you a behavioural researcher with interest and skills in improving research methodology, then this could be an interesting and challenging position for you. We are looking for a postdoc who will support us in the following research: Research Methodology Project using Meta-analyses of Behavioural Intervention Trials. Are you up for the challenge?

As part of an ongoing methodological research project on meta-analysis of health behaviour change interventions (for some of the outputs on the IC-SMOKE project, see below), we are looking for a skilled quantitative researcher with experience in conducting meta(regression) or multi-level analyses in R; and experience with authoring high-quality manuscripts. As part of this research project, we have already compiled a large database of over 170 smoking cessation trials. For two substantive meta-analysis papers based on these data (for which much of the R-script is already available), we are seeking a post-doctoral researcher to lead those papers. Statistical support or supervision is available if required. Additionally, we expect you to contribute to writing follow-up grants to continue and expand this research line.

The two meta-analyses scheduled are (more options are available, time permitting):

  • Comparing the effects of risk of bias ratings on effect sizes in trials with subjective versus objective behavioural outcome measurements.
  • Assessing the impact of poor reporting of smoking cessation interventions and control groups on conclusions of meta-regression analyses regarding effective ingredients.
  • Tasks and responsibilities

    • Prepare dataset for analysis.
    • Draft the analysis plans and pre-publish on the project website.
    • Conduct the meta-regression analyses or collaborate on this with the statistician.
    • Draft and submit the 2 scientific manuscripts.
    • Engage the expert team of collaborators in key stages of the process.
    • Support in writing and submitting research proposals, or take the lead on this.
