Offer Description

You will join the "CaRe-NLP: Human-Centric and Responsible NLP methods for Dutch healthcare" project. CaRe-NLP's main goal is to develop human-centric and responsible NLP and ML methods for healthcare in the Netherlands, Europe, and worldwide. CaRe-NLP's focus is methodological, meaning you will focus on developing, building, and testing state-of-the-art large language models (LLMs) that ensure privacy and fairness, prevent bias, cope with data scarcity, and are interpretable and explainable.

You tackle relevant clinical problems and will develop methods for non-English (including Dutch) healthcare data that include (combinations of) free-text clinical notes collected in primary/secondary/intensive care settings, medical images, time series measurements, medical knowledge graphs, and multi-modal electronic heath records (EHRs).

  • You are an ambitious early-career researcher who will help steer the CaRe-NLP project and who will co-lead one or more of its research lines;
  • You will liaise with a network of clinical partners of the CaRe-NLP project and will tackle relevant healthcare problems using rich real-world clinical data;
  • You will have access to excellent HPC facilities and strong support to publish the results of your work in the best scientific conferences and journals in NLP, ML, AI, and healthcare in general;
  • You will have the opportunity to contribute to mentoring of master's and PhD students and to contribute to relevant teaching activities in the department;
  • Moreover, you will have ample room for personal and professional development.

  • Strong programming skills in Python and ML libraries (PyTorch);
  • Responsible, independent and resilient mindset and fluent in English.

Not required but helpful:

  • Experience with clinical data and related application areas (e.g., cancer, primary/intensive care);
