Job description
Do you have a PhD degree in physics and expertise in general relativity and analysis tools? Would you like to use your experience to work on a better understanding of tidal resonances? And does an interdisciplinary and informal environment that values open since and diversity in academia sound like the right workplace for you? Then you have a part to play as a postdoc.
We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in general relativity and data analysis. As a postdoctoral researcher you will join the Strong Gravity group of B. Bonga and work on modelling tidal resonances. These resonances were co-discovered by Bonga and are critical to model accurately in extreme mass ratio inspirals (EMRIs) if we want to maximise the scientific output of LISA. You will complement the theoretical expertise in the group by bringing your expertise in (gravitational wave) data analysis. Ideally, you already have some experience with the data analysis tools relevant for LISA.
You are expected to closely collaborate with Bonga and students in her group. In addition, you should be open to interact with Radboud University's data analysis experts on gravitational waves (B. Krishnan and G. Nelemans) and particle physics (S. Caron). The goal is to improve current models for tidal resonances, create efficient and accurate waveform models and develop data analysis tools to identify tidal resonances in mock data and extract the relevant parameters.
This project is funded by the NWO grant 'Observing resonating black holes with gravitational waves'.

- You value open science, diversity in academia (and beyond), and sustainable academic practices in the face of the climate crisis.
- You will be happy to closely collaborate with Bonga and members in her group, but will also further develop your own research independence and creativity.

Employer
The Strong Gravity group is part of the Gravity section of the High Energy Physics department at Radboud University. The Gravity section currently consists of six staff scientists (J. Ambjorn (part-time), B. Bonga, T. Budd, B. Krishnan, R. Loll, F. Saueressig) and about three times as many PhD candidates and postdocs, with research topics ranging from black holes and gravitational waves to quantum gravity and random geometry. We have close ties to gravitational research in both the Astrophysics (including a large involvement in the Event Horizon Telescope) and Mathematics departments (including mathematical relativity and noncommutative geometry), with which we share the Institute for Mathematics, Astrophysics and Particle Physics (IMAPP). Our diversity and broad expertise in gravity combined with many regular activities provide a stimulating environment for both early-career and experienced researchers.
Radboud University is situated in Nijmegen (the Netherlands), which is a small but vibrant town surrounded by diverse nature and with great public transport connections to Amsterdam and Utrecht. English is the lingua franca at the University, and you can comfortably get by without knowing any Dutch. Radboud University is an equal opportunity employer, committed to building a diverse intellectual community, and as such encourages applications from women and minorities.
