Offer Description

The Department of Anthropology and Development Studies at Radboud University is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to strengthen its research on diversity and inequality. You will be expected to work in a cross-disciplinary manner, exploring the connections between Anthropology and Development Studies.

You will particularly conduct qualitative and/or mixed-methods and multidisciplinary research on issues related to our central research programme on diversity and inequality. More specifically, you will contribute to one of two subthemes:

  • 'Inequality and Relatedness in Multicultural Societies', with its central question being: How does the politicisation of relatedness perpetuate and/or transform various forms of inequality?
  • 'Diversity, Markets and Natural Resources', with a focus on the following question: 'How are different forms of diversity and inequality within and between societies related to the functioning of markets and associated changes in access to natural resources?'
  • We particularly welcome applicants with specific interest and expertise in issues around personal indebtedness and/or intergenerational poverty, which can be further developed in view of relatedness (subtheme 1) or market functioning (subtheme 2).

    You will be expected to:

    • Perform and publish top-quality research on diversity and inequality.
    • Prepare a proposal for research funding.
    • Contribute to societal debate on the basis of your research.
    • Collaborate with staff at the Radboud Social Cultural Research (RSCR) institute.
    • Perform teaching duties, mostly in Dutch, in collaboration with staff members (0.2 FTE).
    • Be an inspiring member of our staff with excellent communication skills.

    Requirements
    Specific Requirements
    • You should hold a doctoral degree (PhD) in Anthropology, Development Studies or a closely related discipline.
    • You have a strong general knowledge of the field of anthropology and development studies.
    • You have extensive experience with qualitative and/or mixed methods research.
    • You have an excellent track record of publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
    • Preferably, you also have (successful) experience in the acquisition of external funding.
    • You are an inspiring teacher with expertise in teaching at an academic level.
    • You have an university teaching qualification or the willingness to acquire such a certificate within two years (giving priority to completing the module on coaching).
    • You are a team player with good social, communication and organisational skills.
    • You have a commitment to contribute to societal debates.
    • You have an excellent command of written and spoken English (C1 level).
    • You have an excellent command of written and spoken Dutch, or you are willing to develop this within two years.

    Benefits
    • It concerns an employment for 1.0 FTE.
    • The gross monthly salary amounts to a minimum of €3,974 and a maximum of €5,439 based on a 38-hour working week, depending on previous education and number of years of relevant work experience (salary scale 11 ).
    • You will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
    • It concerns a temporary employment for 2 years.
