Offer Description

Are you an aspiring researcher with an interest in environmental science? And are you eager to understand how to make carbon capture and circular processes more sustainable? Then join the Radboud Institute of Biological and Environmental Sciences as a postdoctoral researcher!

You will conduct multi-regional input-output modelling to look into the potential generation of shared economic, social and environmental benefits of shifting to novel symbiotic processes to produce valuable products from waste gasses. The research will be performed in close collaboration with the Strategic Business Analysis unit of the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) and is embedded in the EU H2020 project INITIATE, which focuses on innovative industrial transformation of the steel and chemical industries in Europe. You will carry out research on sectors important for carbon capture utilisation and storage, such as the chemical industry and steel sector. Included in the modelling should be the environmental emissions and subsequent environmental impacts, as well as economic and social impacts. You will therefore work with environmental extensions in input-output modelling.

Specific Requirements
  • You hold a PhD in industrial ecology, environmental economic, ecological economics or an equivalent field where you learned multi-regional input-output modelling.
  • You have demonstrable experience in global environmentally extended multi-regional input-output modelling, Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) modelling or Integrated Assessment Modelling (IAM).
  • Important selection criteria are: analytical modelling skills, team spirit, motivation, and communication skills (particularly a good command of written English).

Additional Information
  • It concerns an employment for 0.8 - 1.0 FTE.
  • The gross monthly salary amounts to a minimum of €3,226 and a maximum of €5,090 based on a 38-hour working week, depending on previous education and number of years of relevant work experience (salary scale 10 ).
  • You will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • It concerns a temporary employment for 12 months with possible extension to 21 months.
  • You will be able to use our Dual Career and Family Care Services . Our Dual Career and Family Care Officer can assist you with family-related support, help your partner or spouse prepare for the local labour market, provide customized support in their search for employment and help your family settle in Nijmegen.
  • Working for us means getting extra days off. In case of full-time employment, you can choose between 30 or 41 days of annual leave instead of the legally allotted 20.

Work and science require good employment practices. This is reflected in Radboud University's primary and secondary employment conditions . You can make arrangements for the best possible work-life balance with flexible working hours, various leave arrangements and working from home. You are also able to compose part of your employment conditions yourself, for example, exchange income for extra leave days and receive a reimbursement for your sports subscription. And of course, we offer a good pension plan. You are given plenty of room and responsibility to develop your talents and realise your ambitions. Therefore, we provide various training and development schemes.
