Job description
Are you interested in working on data-driven research challenges at the interface of academia and industry? The "AI for Retail" Lab (AIRLab ) at the University of Amsterdam is seeking a 3-year Postdoctoral Researcher in the areas of data management and machine learning for e-commerce.
The AIRLab is a joint research lab between the University of Amsterdam and the Dutch retailers Ahold Delhaize, Albert Heijn and bol.com. Our lab consists of two professors, an assistant professor, a research engineer and eight PhD students, and we work on a wide range of topics from machine learning for e-commerce (search, recommendation, forecasting, multi-objective optimization) to data management for machine learning (data validation, data integration, scalable serving of ML models, responsible data management).
What are you going to do
We are looking for a creative researcher with an independent mindset, who establishes their own research agenda, aligned with one of the research directions in our lab. We expect you to interact with our PhD students and support the collaboration with our industry partners.
Our lab's unique setup allows you to work with proprietary data and real-world systems from our industry partners.

Requirements
Your experience and profile:
  • PhD in computer science, artificial intelligence, or a related field;
  • Publication record in relevant conferences in the field of information retrieval (SIGIR, CIKM, WSDM, AAAI, RecSys, ECIR) or data management (VLDB, SIGMOD, ICDE, CIDR, EDBT);
  • A creative and independent mindset;
  • Fluency in English.

Conditions of employment
We offer a temporary employment contract for 38 hours per week for a period of 12 months. If we assess your performance positive, your contract will be extended with 24 months. The preferred starting date is 01 September 2022.
The gross monthly salary, based on 38 hours per week and dependent on relevant experience, ranges between €2,846 to €4,490 (scale 10). This is exclusive 8% holiday allowance and 8,3% year-end allowance. A favourable tax agreement, the '30% ruling', may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities is applicable.
