Offer Description
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at the Anton Pannekoek Institute for Astronomy (API) at the University of Amsterdam Netherlands (UvA) to work with Assistant Professors Silvia Toonen and Antonija Oklopčić on dynamical and atmospheric evolution of exoplanets. The primary responsibility of the position is to lead research projects that connect the architectures and dynamical histories of planetary systems with the properties and evolution of their atmospheres. We seek a curiosity-driven researcher with an interest in interdisciplinary work and exploring as-yet untapped regimes of exoplanet studies. Candidates with a background in atmospheric and/or dynamical modeling are encouraged to apply, and we are also open to other areas of expertise within astrophysics.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop and pursue their own research program related to the described topics, as well as to contribute to existing research projects. In this position the PD will use, advance, and develop an array of numerical tools.
The successful applicant will join the vibrant and stimulating environment at API, with opportunities to collaborate with over 20 researchers in stellar astrophysics, astrochemistry, exoplanets, and planet formation. Furthermore, the University of Amsterdam has a developing profile in Origins of Life research, with opportunities to explore areas connected to astrobiology and biosignatures.
What are you going to do?
- You will be a member of the research groups of Assistant Professors Antonija Oklopčić and Silvia Toonen which are located at the Astronomy Institute (API) of the University of Amsterdam (UvA);
- You will devise a research plan, conduct research, and publish research results in the areas of planetary dynamics and atmospheric evolution;
- You will collaborate with other faculty members, postdocs, and students in the “Exoplanets and Planet Formation” and “Massive Stars and Stellar Populations” groups at API;
- You will advise and supervise research projects of Bsc, Msc, and PhD students;
- You will write or assist in writing research proposals;
- You will contribute to administrative/organizational tasks and to creating an open, safe and inclusive working environment.

- A committed researcher, demonstrated by publications in international refereed academic journals and academic publishers;
- The ability and willingness to collaborate and adapt in a team;
- Good communication skills in oral and written English.
Previous experience with dynamical modelling and/or atmospheric evolution is preferred but not required.
