We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a background in data science, machine learning and biostatistics who is interested in the application of AI in medicine.
Job description

Your main task will be to develop new methodologies for the application of machine learning and deep learning on medical images for the purpose of disease diagnosis and outcome prediction. This will be done at the cross-section of medical specialties (including radiology) and computer science.
To achieve these goals, you will have access to unique datasets from research institutions throughout Asia, the United States and Europe, including datasets dedicated to COVID-19 research. Furthermore, you will be directly responsible for the supervision of graduate students working on these projects. This position is located in Maastricht, The Netherlands, at Maastricht University (www.maastrichtuniversity.nl ), within the department of Precision Medicine (https://precisionmedicinemaastricht.eu ), embedded in the research school GROW (https://www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/research/grow-school-oncology-anddevelopmental-biology ). Teaching roles will also be an integral part of your work.

Requirements

We are looking for a positive-minded scientist with a PhD, fluent in English, both in writing and speaking and, preferably some experience as a postdoc in image analysis and some experience teaching and supervising graduate students. Candidates must have a strong background in biomedical informatics, bioinformatics, computer science, data analytics, or (bio)statistics. Proven expertise in machine learning, in particular deep learning, and programming (Python) is required. The candidates must be able to drive their own research agenda and be ready to write and submit grants. We expect you to be able to foster and initiate cooperation and enjoy teamwork in a multidisciplinary environment. In addition, candidates should be able to work independently, perform teaching activities, and supervise projects and undergraduate interns where needed.


Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year, with possible extention.

The position is for a fixed term of initially one year, with possible extension after year 1.
The salary will be based on the candidates experience and can amount to a maximum of € 5.230 (comparable to max scale 11 VSNU), depending on your level of education and relevant experience and based on a full-time working week of 38 hours. If you are a non-Dutch national the 30% tax rule may apply.
