Are you interested in doing research on digital competence and contributing to valorization on the topic?

Jessica Piotrowski (PI), Claes de Vreese (Co-I), and Dian de Vries (HU; Co-I)are searching for a postdoctoral fellow / senior researcher for a new project funded by the Ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken en Koninkrijksrelaties (MinBZK). Project CID (Competency Insight Dashboard) is designed to proactively manage and support the digital competence amongst Dutch citizens via a multi-pronged research approach that includes: (1) long-term inclusive population-based monitoring to identify priority areas for focus; (2) dynamic monitoring that allows for fast response to changing technological developments; (3) persona-based approaches that facilitate nuanced detection of at-risk populations to guide interventions; and (5) on-demand access to digital competence trends to facilitate proactive action amongst public policy makers and practitioners

What are you going to do

You will be responsible for:

  • 1. launching and maintaining a long-term population-based monitor of digital competence which includes both structural and dynamic modules;
  • 2. implementing a persona-based approach to determine at-risk populations;
  • 3. managing the development of a digital dashboard to provide on-time digital competence data to stakeholders;
  • 4. serving as a key liaison between the funders (MinBZK) and the project as well as liaison with stakeholders within and outside the academy to support project valorisation; including via reports and presentations and invited expert meetings;
  • 5. collaborating on scientific papers on this topic following the principles of open science;
  • 6. managing the day-to-day aspects of the project, including student assistant management and collaborating with project PIs.

What do you have to offer

  • An interest in the project topic (documented by publications; grant applications; or valorisation activities), including experiencing working with specific ‘sub-populations’
  • A PhD in communication science
  • The ability, willingness, and commitment to do autonomous work in a multidisciplinary atmosphere.
  • Experience with knowledge dissemination and valorisation
  • Strong communication skills and experience with working with partners within and outside academia.
  • Preference for an experienced scholar with experience leading projects (e.g., managing student assistants; managing research grants)
  • Excellent written and spoken command of Dutch and English

What can we offer you

A position of a maximum of 0.8 FTE (30 hours per week) (depending on starting salary scale) for a period of 36 months. Depending on your interest and the needs of the educational institutes of the department it may be possible to add up to 0.2 FTE of teaching in the appointment depending on approval from the teaching institutes.

The intended start date for this position is 1 March 2024 (or as soon as possible after that date)

Salary is commensurate with experience, ranging between Scale 11 and 12 (€4332,- up to €5929,-) as consistent with the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities .
