Job description
The need for a transition towards healthy diets from sustainable food systems is now clearer than ever. Do you want to contribute to understanding how this transition can impact population health, diet quality, and the consumer dynamics behind these transitions, we would like to welcome you as a postdoctoral researcher to our project!
The main project is embedded within the NWA-funded project Transition towards healthy and sustainable food systems in the Netherlands, which includes a consortium of partners from research organizations (universities and universities of applied sciences) and interested stakeholders (e.g. policy makers, industry). Your work will include linking envisioned dietary scenarios to future health impact calculations via disease risk and disability-adjusted life years (DALY's) and evaluating the impact of potential food system transitions pathways. As part of the systems approach of this project you will be assisting in a joint paper with different food systems specialist on transition models by contributing nutrition and health knowledge and linking these with required changes in the food environment. Additionally, you will assist in teaching (supervising MSc students), grant writing, and other research projects where your expertise is needed.
This research is embedded within the chair Global Nutrition at the Division of Human Nutrition and Health [prof Edith Feskens, [link ]. For the NWA project part of the work you will be supervised by Dr Sander Biesbroek (HNH) and Dr. Maartje Poelman (CHL).

Requirements
You have:
  • successfully completed a PhD degree in Human Nutrition, Public Health, Epidemiology, or similar;
  • worked with multivariable regression models for prediction or to control for confounding;
  • knowledge of disease risk calculations (DALY) and experience with using them in your work;
  • a keen interest in diets, sustainability, the role of the food environment, and the ambition to use a food system approach in your work;
  • excellent English language proficiency (a minimum of CEFR C2 level). For more information about this proficiency level, please visit our special language page .

Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between €2960,- and €4670,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 10).
The project will run for 3 years, and start date is preferably October 2022. You will receive a one-year contract, after evaluation the contract will be extended for the duration of the project.
