Offer Description

The chair of Smart Architectural Technologies at TU/e Built Environment seeks a postdoctoral researcher to join our interdisciplinary team on the nationally funded projects. These projects are dedicated to improving the overall health and well-being of older individuals in long-term care settings, with a focus on resilience, vulnerability management, and technology acceptance. This role is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative healthcare decision-making frameworks, making a direct impact on policy and shaping the future of built environments for healthcare.

The selected candidate will play an active role in gathering data and analyzing the interaction dynamics within long-term care facilities, assessing how living and organizational environments affect health, care provision, and social contact. This includes exploring the effectiveness of technological interventions and developing comprehensive decision-making models for future long-term care facilities. Collaboration with consortium partners, including researchers from TNO, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, care institutions, and housing cooperatives, is a key aspect of this position.

Requirements
Specific Requirements
  • Completed PhD or MSc degree in social sciences, architecture, healthcare management, or a related discipline, with a focus on smart environments, long-term care, or healthcare decision-making.
  • Demonstrated expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods, including proficiency in conducting interviews, surveys, and statistical analysis.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams and to communicate with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • A strong track record of publications in relevant fields (for PhD holders) or demonstrable research experience (for MSc holders).
  • Proficiency in Dutch and English, essential for conducting local fieldwork and engaging with international research communities.

Desirable skills

  • Experience with fieldwork in long-term care settings and an empathetic approach to engaging with older individuals and caregivers.
  • Knowledge of smart architectural technologies and their application in improving care and living conditions for long-term care populations.
  • Ability to critically analyze and evaluate building functionality and usability, with a focus on healthcare delivery and resident interactions.
