Atomic layer deposition (ALD) and atomic layer etching (ALE) can be used to deposit or etch materials in an atomic layer by atomic layer fashion with unique features with respect to uniformity, conformality and control of surface and material properties. As such, both methods have become very popular atomic scale processing techniques with many applications in various fields of science and technology.
In collaboration with various academic and industry partners - in and outside the Eindhoven Brainport region - we have several openings if you are interested to work in the field of ALD and ALE. The applications of the research are mostly in the area of nano(opto)electronics and renewable energy technologies. You will work on one of the following projects (or a combination thereof):
- Plasma-based ALE - develop isotropic and anisotropic processes
- ALD of 2D materials - preparing 2D transition metal chalcogenides for nano(opto)electronics
- Spatial ALD - towards more materials and more applications
- ALD and ALE for quantum technology - tailoring to the unique quantum requirements
- ALD for tandem solar cells - enabling high-efficiency perovskite-based solar cells
You will join the Plasma & Materials Processing (PMP, www.tue.nl/pmp ) research group at the Department of Applied Physics of the TU/e. The research in this group is coordinated by the principal investigators Prof. Adriana Creatore, Dr. Harm Knoops, Dr. Bart Macco, Dr. Adrie Mackus and Prof. Erwin Kessels. The present research in the PMP group embraces several research lines such as the experimental investigation of the plasma medium, in situ and operando studies of interaction of reactive species with surfaces, and (plasma-based) synthesis at the atomic scale of materials of interest in many fields in science and technology. You will be embedded in the Eindhoven Hendrik Casimir Institute (EHCI, https://www.tue.nl/en/research/institutes/eindhoven-hendrik-casimir-institute/ ) or in the Eindhoven Institute for Renewable Energy Systems (EIRES, https://www.tue.nl/en/research/research-areas/energy/eindhoven-institute-for-renewable-energy-systems-eires/ ).
The research group and institute comprise an enthusiastic and diverse group of researchers who share a passion for collaborative efforts and working with students. They are strongly embedded in (inter)national academic and industrial research networks. You will have access to state-of-the-art lab and clean room facilities (https://www.tue.nl/en/research/research-groups/nanolabtue/nanolabtue ) in aforementioned areas. These include many experimental systems for atomic-scale processing and extensive material analysis equipment.
