Postdoc position in Stable and Clumped Methane isotope measurements (1.0 FTE) |
Job description |
Methane is emitted from different sources to the atmosphere and carries a distinct isotopic composition, characteristic for the respective source process. This composition can be used to quantify the relative contributions of methane from different source categories in the atmosphere, and methane isotope measurements are becoming a standard tool for source partitioning. Yet, these measurements are challenging and datasets from different laboratories are not always compatible, which can significantly affect the scientific interpretation. This is part of the European Research project “Metrology for European Emissions Verification on Methane Isotopes " (ISOMET). This project is designed to harmonize atmospheric isotope measurements across Europe, including the conventional stable isotopic composition as well as the novel clumped isotope signatures. You as postdoctoral researcher will become an expert in isotope ratio mass spectrometry and carry out a variety of activities to obtain new isotope data and improve interlaboratory compatibility as part of a European research consortium. |

Qualifications |
You have completed a PhD degree in physics, chemistry or another area related to environmental sciences with a strong quantitative mathematical background. You already have good background knowledge on atmospheric composition and greenhouse gas cycles and experience with isotope measurements. Next to this you find yourself in one or multiple of the following characteristics:

About the organization |
At the Faculty of Science , there are 6 departments to make a fundamental connection with: Biology, Chemistry, Information and Computing Sciences, Mathematics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Physics. Each of these is made up of distinct institutes that work together to focus on answering some of humanity’s most pressing problems. More fundamental still are the individual research groups – the building blocks of our ambitious scientific projects. Find out more about us . |
