Job description
Research within the Sensor Engineering research group of Maastricht University is focused on developing innovative sensor technologies for implementation in diverse fields ranging from medical diagnostics to food safety assessment. For this position we are looking for a motivated postdoc with a strong background in organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, material science or biochemistry. The candidate will work in a multicultural, interdisciplinary team consisting of engineers, chemists and biomedical scientists. The research group has developed extensive expertise in combining sensor technology with chemistry and biomedical engineering to acquire knowledge and streamline applications for use in real life settings.
The Sensor Engineering research group has therefore focused much of its research efforst into the development of so-called molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) for incorporation into biomimetic sensing platforms. Within this research line, Sensor Engineering has multiple Interreg projects running focusing on the imprinting of a wide variety of targets ranging from low-molecular weight compounds (vitamins, antibiotics...) to micro-organisms. These synthetic receptors form the core of our sensor platforms and are coupled to a wide variety of transducer technologies including impedance spectroscopy, thermal resistance measurements and colorimetry. As postdoc you will assist PhD students with their research, lead your own research projects and assist in teaching at the Bachelor level.
