Job description
Do you have an interest in genetic diversity in one of the world's most well-known plant species? Do you enjoy discovering new biological insights from large and complex datasets? Are you fascinated by the diversity in rose genomes and ready to contribute to this state-of-the-art genomics project with your extensive bioinformatics experience? As a Postdoc you will join a multi-disciplinary research project in the Genome Biology Unit cluster of the Plant Sciences group of Wageningen University & Research. The project involves building and analyzing a pangenome for Rosa, a genus that includes cut roses (Rosa x hybrida) and related wild rose species. You will analyze the genomic diversity in over 50 rose accessions, refine the rose phylogeny, and investigate links to rose traits. The generated knowledge on the genetic makeup and evolution of roses will be instrumental in rose breeding.
This 2-year position offers you the opportunity to apply your research skills in the domain of plant (pan)genomics and includes time for personal development. On this multi-disciplinary project you will work closely with researchers from the four chair groups in the Genome Biology Unit. Therefore, good collaboration and communication skills are required. Previous bioinformatics experience with the handling of next-generation sequence data is necessary, while experience with pan-genomics and associated software tools is considered a plus. You should also demonstrate a knowledge and interest in downstream biological applications such as phylogenetic analyses, genotype-phenotype associations or evolutionary aspects. Previous experience in the genetic analysis of polyploid species is also considered relevant.

Requirements
Your profile demonstrates:

• a PhD degree in a relevant field, e.g. bioinformatics, computational biology, biosystematics, plant sciences, plant breeding or genetics;
• proficiency in bioinformatics and demonstrable experience in working with next-generation sequencing data;
• affinity with plant science;
• project management skills;
• a strong motivation to work flexibly and creatively in a cross-disciplinary environment;
• good communication skills and the ability to interact constructively with colleagues;
• a proven ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals.
• for this position your command of the English language is expected to be at C1 level . Sometimes it is necessary to submit an internationally recognised Certificate of Proficiency in the English Language. More information can be found here .

Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between € 3.413,- and €4.670,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 10). Additionally, a contract for 0.8 FTE can be discussed.
