3D Representation for Controlling Composite Fabrication Process

We are looking for a passionate Postdoctoral researcher to join our team and contribute to a cutting-edge project at the intersection of 3D Computer Vision, Composite Fabrication and Aerospace Structures.

Project Overview: The project is dedicated to the monitoring and management of composite fabrication process, ensuring the production of high-performance and highly reliable composite parts. These components play a crucial role in various high-stakes applications including aviation, aerospace, and super-cars. You will focus on creating a detailed volumetric representation of small pieces of composite tapes arranged in a mold before they are fused into a single, solid piece. Such a model facilitates real-time adaptation and precise control of the fabrication process, ensuring that composite tape pieces are distributed evenly, enhancing the structural integrity and reliability of the final product.

Your Role:

  • Use cutting-edge 3D computer vision methods.
  • Design and set up experiments.
  • Deploy your algorithms on machines.
  • Write well-documented code.
  • Prepare demonstrators.
  • Write scientific papers.
  • Guide Master's and/or PhD students.
  • Limited participation in educational activities.
  • Support in writing grant proposals.
  • Support in organizing workshops and scientific events.
  • Connect with academic and industry partners and promote your work.
  • PhD in Computer Vision, Robotics, Aerospace/Mechanical/Electrical/Computer Eng., Applied Math or related disciplines.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or C++, along with knowledge in software integration methods.
  • Knowledge in machine learning and deep learning methods.
  • Knowledge in OpenCV, ROS, and Gazebo.
  • Well organized and excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent command of English and communication skills.
  • Knowledge in composite materials is a plus.
