Postdoc on the Enrichment of Population Studies with Exposome Data (1.0 FTE)

Job description
Cardiovascular diseases and cancer continue to dominate as the leading cause of death and morbidity across the EU. There is a huge potential to improve the prevention and treatment of these chronic diseases by fully incorporating data on the influence of environmental and lifestyle factors (the exposome), either measured in the environment or in the human body, collected in population studies.
We offer an exciting postdoctoral position within several recently funded European research projects. The successful candidate will work on the enrichment of large European population studies with external and internal (metabolomics) exposome data and will use the data to study the interaction between the genome and exposome on health and chronic disease. Your study results will be used to inform novel strategies for prevention and treatment of chronic disease in Europe.

Qualifications

We are looking for an enthusiastic, ambitious and independent thinker, who has excellent writing skills and is a team player. You hold a PhD in (medical) statistics, computational epidemiology, or a related discipline. Affinity with environmental health, human biomonitoring and/or OMICs data is valued. Furthermore, you have strong programming skills, and are comfortable working with large-scale data. You are willing to travel, have an appropriate publication record and are willing to apply for grant funding.

Candidates with the following skills are especially encouraged to apply:

  • Experience in statistical analyses with R.;
  • Knowledge of preprocessing in high-dimensional (OMICs) data;
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills (written and spoken);
  • A strong motivation to work in a multidisciplinary international research team.

Offer

We offer a temporary position (1.0 FTE) for one year in an international environment. In case of a good performance, extending the employment for three more years is a possibility. The minimum gross salary is €2,960 and the maximum gross salary is €4,670 (scale 10 of the Collective Labor Agreement of Dutch Universities) per month, at a full-time employment.
