Ambitious climate policy, such as the EU Green Deal and Dutch Delta Program, requires comprehensive assessments of its national, sectoral and regional economic impacts along a range of possible long-term socio-economic and climate scenarios. Several research institutes in the Netherlands are currently developing such long-term scenarios taking into account their economic, environmental and welfare effects at subnational level for the Netherlands. This PostDoc project offers a unique opportunity to perform impactful work between advanced academic and policy oriented research by contributing to the development of regional and sectoral long-term scenarios for the Netherlands using a combination of econometric analysis and Spatial Computable General Equilibrium modeling. The ambition is to provide new insights into the implications of climate change and climate policies at the regional scale to develop actionable strategies for aligning socio-economic and climate goals.
The direct tasks of this PostDoc position include:
(1) statistical analysis of empirical data on technological innovations that can be used to develop scenarios of technological learning for future energy transitions;
(2) co-development of specific scenarios of regional development, e.g. regional inequalities in the labor market as an outcome of technological changes and climate policy, changes in sectoral productivity and in consumption patterns. Such scenarios will leverage on the latest international scientific discourse, and will be developed in collaboration with PBL and TU Delft researchers;
(3) advance and run Spatial Computable General Equilibrium model developed by PBL to quantify the sectoral and regional welfare effects of climate change mitigation and adaptation policies in the Netherlands under various scenarios
This position is jointly hosted by PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency & TU Delft. At PBL you will collaborate with economists & modelers at the Department of Urbanisation and Transport. At TU Delft you will be part of the Policy Analysis Section, Department of Multi-Actor Systems at the Faculty of Technology Policy and Management, and will participate in the Delft Climate Action Program https://www.tudelft.nl/en/climate-action .
