Postdoc: Low Power wireless protocols for control
Faculty Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering
Working hours: 38.0 hours weekly
Salary: 3389 - 4274 euros monthly (full-time basis)
Faculty Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering
The 3mE Faculty t rains committed engineering students, PhD candidates and post-doctoral researchers in groundbreaking scientific research in the fields of mechanical, maritime and materials engineering. 3mE is the epitome of a dynamic, innovative faculty, with a European scope that contributes demonstrable economic and social benefits.
The department Delft Center for Systems and Control (DCSC) of the faculty Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering, coordinates the education and research activities in systems and control at Delft University of Technology. The Centers' research mission is to conduct fundamental research in systems dynamics and control, involving dynamic modelling, advanced control theory, optimisation and signal analysis. The research is motivated by advanced technology development in physical imaging systems, renewable energy, robotics and transportation systems.
The SENTIENT project (funded by the European Research Council) develops efficient scheduling methods for networked event-triggered control systems. The research in this project is highly interdisciplinary, involving the fields of communications, control and computer science. Furthermore, the research has both theoretic as well as applied components, performed in in our laboratory testbeds on swarm robotics, water transport, and automotive.
This position is focused on the integration of predictive communication models, developed by other members of the team, across communication layers of wireless communication stacks. In particular, the aim would be to exploit such models to devise wireless real-time communication protocols with very low-power consumption.
We are looking for a candidate with a PhD degree in computer science or electrical engineering with a focus on wireless communications and a strong interest in inter-disciplinary research. Experience with wireless sensor networks, and in particular with Contiki and/or TinyOS, and communications protocols like WirelessHART, ZiggBEE, and specially GLOSSY are strong assets. The candidate must have strong analytical skills and must be able to work at the intersection of several research domains. A very good command of the English language is required, as well as excellent communication skills.
Conditions of employment
The TU Delft offers a customisable compensation package, a discount for health insurance and sport memberships, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged. Coming to Delft Service organizes diverse events for new international employees and their accompanying partners, like Partner Career Workshops and Dutch Culture Workshops.
