Postdoc in Modularity in Rail-based Multi-Modal Transport

Come join our team as an enthusiastic research fellow to engage in multi-disciplinary research on cutting-edge rail-based freight mobility systems.

In this position you will explore innovative and revolutionary mobility concepts involving market-ready digital solutions and automation. We explore different areas including designing and modelling the system for rail, road, and logistics.

In this project you will collaborate with fellow colleagues to create a modular software framework representing the behaviour of the physical system, with connections to technical-operational models developed in the project.

The project is embedded in the PoDs4Rail European project which explores innovative concepts related to application of automated modular vehicles in multi-modal transport.

You are a highly motivated and enthusiastic researcher with the ambition to conduct high-quality interdisciplinary research. You enjoy thinking outside the box, mentoring students, and are highly innovative, communicative, and enjoy teamwork. You are reliable, independent, and organized in meeting deadlines.

In addition, you have:

  • A PhD degree in Computer science, Operations research, Transportation Engineering or a related field.
  • A strong background in optimization and mathematical modelling, and familiarity with distributed optimisation techniques.
  • Experience with standard problems such as VRP, railway scheduling, fleet management, and similar, and familiarity with the areas of multimodal freight transport, railway operations, planning and related fields. 
  • Strong programming skills. 
  • English proficiency.

The duration of the position is at least 18 months with the potential to be extended. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
