The Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam School of Business and Economics is seeking an all-round data scientist for 1 FTE for a period up to March 2025 in the project

(FBB). The project team of researchers consists of Prof. dr. Wolter Hassink (UU/USE), Prof. dr. Arjen van Witteloostuijn (VU/SBE), Prof. dr. Daniel Oberski (UU/FSW), dr. Peter Gerbrands (UU/USE) and Rutger Schilpzand, MSc LLM (UU/USE).

Job description

The FIRMBACKBONE (FBB) team is seeking for a person with a master's degree or higher with a strong technical background in data science or computer science and the ambition to work with larger volumes of structured and unstructured data. The candidate will be part of the team that aims to fulfil its prestigious ambition to provide access to protected data while following the principles of open science.

The goal of FBB is to build an organically growing, longitudinal data
infrastructure with information about Dutch companies for scientific research and
education. The digitization of society and our economy has enabled new methods of
collecting and analyzing data from companies. Such digital data is both detailed (i.e.
deep) and long (i.e. over time) in size and it offers great potential for creating new
economic insights and applications. 

Your duties

  • Setting up system and data security within a bigdata environment
  • Deploying the environment within the Kubernetes platform
  • Organizing and implementing efficient user access management
  • Onboarding new datasets and make them accessible for researchers
  • Extracting and supplementing metadata form available data sources

Requirements
  • A Master degree related to Computer Science, artificial intelligence or another related field
  • knowledge of and experience of Linux, Java and Python. 
  • Working knowledge on Kubernetes, especially on networking within Kubernetes is a plus
  • Knowledge of other security and authentication protocols, susch as SSO and SSL is a plus

What are we offering?

A challenging position in a socially involved organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €3,226 (scale 10)

and a maximum €5,090 (scale 10), depending on your education and experience. The job profile: is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 1 FTE.

The initial employment contract will affect a period of 12 months.
Additionally, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam offers excellent fringe benefits and various schemes and regulations to promote a good work/life balance, such as:

FIRMBACKBONE is a PDI-SSH funded initiative that is creating an organically growing longitudinal platform with information on Dutch companies.
