Within the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE), the Bernoulli Institute conducts research combining theoretical as well as practical aspects of three disciplines, namely Mathematics, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence.


Job description

A 1-year postdoc position in mathematical analysis is available at the Bernoulli Institute of the University of Groningen in The Netherlands. The position is situated in the Systems Control and Applied Analysis group and is funded by Alden Waters’ FSE research grant.

The successful candidate is expected to conduct research on theoretical or explicit aspects of the study of dispersive estimates for Maxwell’s equations.
You are also expected to interact scientifically with other research staff and students, as well as organize and participate in seminars. The position comes with a small travel budget to give research seminars at other universities.
The position comes with mild teaching duties (in English, about 10% of the appointment). Knowledge of the Dutch language is not required.


Qualifications

You should have a PhD degree in mathematics with a strong background in mathematical analysis and partial differential equations and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Maxwell’s equations
  • Wave equations
  • Harmonic analysis.

Conditions of employment

The University of Groningen offers, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

  • a salary from a minimum of € 3.557 (salary scale 10.4) gross per month for a full-time position depending of relevant experience and training
  • a full-time position (1.0 FTE)
  • a holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income
  • 8.3% end-of-the-year allowance.

The position is limited to a period of 1 years. The starting date is flexible, but must be before July 1st 2023 due to limitations on the grant.
