Job description

Project description

The need for mitigation, or more generally manipulation, of elastic and acoustic waves arises in many areas of high technological, societal and economical importance ranging from aeronautical and automotive industries, infrastructure and built environment to bio-medical applications and high-precision equipment. Dynamic metamaterials constitute a relatively new emerging class of metamaterials targeting manipulation of mechanical waves, which can provide novel paths to the solution of a number of challenging problems in wave mitigation and control by going beyond the limits of the conventional solutions used nowadays. Despite the tremendous growth of the metamaterial research field in the past decade, metamaterial technology is still at a low application readiness level and significant steps forward are needed in this respect.

This project will therefore aim at the practical side of metamaterial development, namely metamaterial design, manufacturing and experimental demonstration, targeting several specific applications, i.e. biomedical ultrasound imaging and vibration isolation in high-precision equipment.

Tasks

As a Postdoc you will fulfil the following activities:

  • Perform scientific research, with particular focus on design, manufacturing and testing.
  • Present results on international conferences and publish results in scientific journals.
  • Report progress.
  • Contribute to the educational program in the department.

Job requirements

Job requirements

Talented, enthusiastic candidates with excellent analytical, practical and communication skills holding a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Manufacturing or similar are encouraged to apply. Experience with mechanical metamaterials, experimental acoustics/dynamics or micromanufacturing techniques is of benefit.

Conditions of employment

A meaningful job in a dynamic and ambitious university, in an interdisciplinary setting and within an international network. You will work on a beautiful, green campus within walking distance of the central train station. In addition, we offer:

  • Full-time employment for 2years.
