University Corporate Office - TU Delft Library

TU Delft Library is the largest science and technology library in the Netherlands. As a physical and virtual meeting place, the library forges bonds between teaching and research at TU Delft and facilitates the unconstrained flow of knowledge. The library supports researchers, students and lecturers with its innovative approach to making knowledge accessible, as well as to sharing and presenting it. As we attach such great importance to scientific output, digital content and innovative developments, it is extremely important that we incorporate knowledge sharing into the mix. We advise students, lecturers and researchers on choice of publication channel, re-use of others’ materials and protection of their own intellectual property. Open, inquisitive, self-confident, innovative and connective: these are the brand values we are most proud of. User surveys show a high level of appreciation for the Library’s innovative services.

The Library is made up of three departments: Research Services, Education Services and Resources. Along with the Director, the three department managers are members of the Management Team. At the Library we value the coordination of communications, the management of relationships, innovation and efficient business operations. These overarching activities are divided across the Management Team, with the support of a policy group.

The Library Research Services department consists of three groups, each of which is managed by a head. The department's focus is on supporting the target group of researchers from the Library, from the areas of research data services, research support, and document management & archive. In addition, the department has two staff positions in the field of collection management and quality management.

Job description

With its 35 employees, Research Services’ main activity is supporting researchers at TU Delft in the research life cycle. The department ensures that researchers (and students) have access to the scientific journals, books and databases they need, that they are given assistance with good research data management during their research, and that they receive proper advice regarding where and how (and even with whom) they should publish their work. These matters relate strongly to the TU Delft Open Science programme, in which the department is well-represented. The groups’ responsibilities include coordinating 4TU.ResearchData, functional management of Pure, coordination for data stewardship at TU Delft and the development of Research Intelligence.

As a member of the Library's management team you work with the director, the two other managers and the HR advisor to give the Library leadership and direction.  You are interested in the research conducted at TU Delft and try to think of ways in which we, together with the other support services, can improve our services to our users. You are engaged in all the issues the Library is involved in and, depending on your experience and your interests, you will be given a number of Library-wide portfolios to oversee. You are a good sparring partner for the three heads and the two other employees that directly report to you, and ensure that everyone follows the course the department has set. You find it easy to seek international co-operation - an essential skill for the manager of this department.

You have an academic background with at least 3 to 5 years of relevant management experience, preferably in an information-intensive environment. You understand the needs of students, lecturers and researchers at a university and how the Library can best support these needs, and you are able to formulate a clear course for the department to achieve this. You have an innovative mindset, are aware of your surroundings and have experience in generating support. You are a flexible leader, you encourage and motivate your team and do not shy away from discussing performance and results. You have an excellent command of English.

Competences:  You connect, inspire, have clear vision and are persuasive, communicate well, are decisive, a good negotiator, and ICT savvy.

Conditions of employment

It is a position with a size of 36-40 hours per week (1.0FTE). It is a temporary employment contract for a period of 1 year with prospect of permanent employment. The salary is based on scale 13 from the collective agreement for Dutch Universities with a minimum of € 5039 and a maximum of € 6133 gross per month based on a full-time appointment. You will be classified on the basis of knowledge and experience. You will accrue pension via the ABP pension fund.

Besides of course the holiday allowance in May, you will receive an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% in December. You can also compile a part of your terms of employment package yourself with the help of the Individual Terms and Conditions package, including buying and selling leave hours.

A good balance between work and private life is important. That is why you can make agreements about flexible working hours, you have many vacation days and parental leave is partially paid.

We think it is important that you can develop as well as possible and that you can carry out your work. We support this in various ways, including an extensive range of courses, career coaches or discounted sports.
