Job description

“Supporting your academic goals.” That is what we do at Maastricht University Library. To achieve those goals, we are looking for talented individuals that want to contribute to diverse research support projects in close collaboration with researchers and UM support staff to develop and implement diverse data workflows and processes.

Your work focuses on:

  • Developing effective solutions for processes in the research cycle and/or for optimizing the possibilities to navigate through (scientific) information.
  • Understanding functional requirements (e.g. based on user stories) and translating these requirements into functional design and solutions, development and configuration of an application and/or code for working pieces of software, e.g. plugins for existing systems or stand-alone websites.
  • Thriving in our fast-paced environment by anticipating on it with innovative ideas and solutions and their implementation.
  • Identifying and implementing improvements to optimize support for current processes and automate them where possible. In other words, daring to challenge ideas and methods.
  • Preparing and executing test plans.
  • Collaborating with colleagues in the UM community - such as researchers, support staff, key users of the software tools you are developing for – as well as with the providers of those tools.

Requirements

We are looking for you if you are not hesitant to use creative approaches to software development. You are able to share knowledge and present results in an understandable way to diverse groups.

The willingeness to acquire new skills and to collaborate is in your nature and you are pro-active, motivated and result-driven.

Furthermore, you have:

  • A BSc or MSc degree in computer science/data science, engineering, information technology, mathematics or other relevant field.
  • Experience or affinity with programming languages like PowerShell, .net Core/C#, PHP, SQL SPARQL, and Python.
  • Experience in working with Atlassian products (preferably Jira Service Management and Confluence) and with program API’s or web services.
  • Experience with or knowledge of working with Scrum agile project management frameworks is a plus.
  • Proficiency of the Dutch and English language.

Conditions of employment

As developer, you will work at the most international university of the Netherlands in the beautiful city of Maastricht.

Furthermore, we offer you:

  • An interesting and challenging job for 38 hours per week (1.0 FTE).
  • A position that is classified in the UFO profile Developer ICT, level 2. Depending on experience, you will be classified in scale 10 or 11 of the CAO NU (€2,960,- - €5,439,- gross per month, based on a fulltime position of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
  • Space and facilities to develop yourself: personally and in the latest technology. This partly takes place in-house, but also with external (online) partners.
  • In addition to good primary employment conditions, there is also a nice package of secondary employment conditions. You can think of: flexible working hours, 232 holiday hours per year with a full-time appointment, a good pension scheme, the possibility of hybrid working (incl. facilitation of home office), possibility to use sports facilities, and Collective Labour Agreement á la carte.
