Job description
The capacity group Conservation and Restoration is looking for a lecturer to teach in the Masters and Advanced Professional Programme (APP) of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage, specifically in the track Wood & Furniture Conservation. You have been educated as a furniture and wooden objects conservator-restorer at an academic level and have gained experience working as a conservator in this field, both in the scientific investigation of wood & furniture and in their treatment. Furthermore, your CV demonstrates your interest in and capacities for teaching within this specialisation on an academic level.
What are you going to do?
Together with the other lecturer within the Wood & Furniture conservation specialisation, you carry responsibility for the education of future conservators in this track, guiding them in the development of academic and practical knowledge and skills with inspiring lectures and workshops, developed according to the latest scientific insights. Depending on your profile, your activities may also include teaching within other specialisations and teaching general courses in the area of science, documentation or / and reconstruction. With the other Wood & Furniture conservation lecturer, you will also teach an introduction to Wood & Furniture conservation in the BA minor programme Conservation and Restoration. Additional tasks may vary between the supervision of student conservation treatments or research projects and internships, including object investigations or investigative techniques employed for the examination of Wood & Furniture (such as for instance microscopy, UV examination, X-ray based techniques). Your teaching duties also include contributing to the renewal and improvement of the curriculum, as well as the acquisition of objects.
Tasks and responsibilities

• co-developing, coordinating, and teaching classes in object-based, hands-on courses within the MA and APP programme in Wood & Furniture conservation and in the minor Conservation and Restoration, in collaboration with the staff of the capacity group of Conservation and Restoration ;
• co-supervising and mentoring student research (including Master and APP theses), internships and hands-on conservation projects;
• keeping track of relevant scholarship and integrating new insights into teaching;
• up-keeping and maintaining the Wood & Furniture conservation laboratory;
• building client relations with regard to internships and acquisition of objects for student hands-on sessions and research;
• serving on department and university committees, participating in department and university events, and advancing the department's public outreach initiatives;
• attending team meetings;
• performing administrative tasks that go with teaching.

Requirements
We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic lecturer, someone who is curious to know more and enjoys guiding the students in their development towards the profession of wood and furniture conservator. The ideal candidate likes to take on responsibilities that help ensure the quality of our education programme, working in close collaboration with the rest of the team.
Your experience and profile

• Master degree or higher in Wood & Furniture conservation, which may include certificates from internationally recognized academic conservation programmes;
• advanced experience and (manual) skills in the field as a Wood & Furniture conservator;
• preferably, experience with teaching in Master programmes at an academic level, specifically in the field of Wood & Furniture conservation;
• a PhD in a relevant area is a plus, but is not a requirement for this position;
• experience with digital and audio-visual equipment;
• affinity with IT in academic education;
• team spirit and a willingness to participate in activities of the Capacity group C&R;
• willingness and ability to cooperate in multidisciplinary projects;
• good administrative experience and skills;
• Good knowledge if the field and a strong network
• good command of both Dutch and English. Non-native Dutch speakers must achieve an active and passive command of Dutch within two years of employment. Passing the state examination for Dutch as a Second Language programme II is a prerequisite for a permanent employment contract;
• University Teaching Qualification, or willing to acquire this within two years.

Conditions of employment
We offer a temporary employment contract for a period of 4 year with a probationary period of two months. The employment contract is for 15,2 hours a week.
The gross monthly salary, based on 38 hours per week and relevant experience, ranges between € 2,960 to € 4,670. This sum does not include the 8% holiday allowance and the 8,3% year-end allowance. A favourable tax agreement, the '30% ruling', may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities is applicable.
