Are you a motivated lecturer who wants to teach Visual Culture courses in our Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes and faculty minor programme? Then you are the lecturer we need!

As a lecturer in Visual Culture, you will teach students to analyse visual media and reflect on the role of visual culture in society. You will provide education in current methods, research techniques and theories relevant to the study of visual culture, at both Bachelor's and Master's level, in both Dutch and English. You will supervise students during their internships and the writing of their theses. You will share your ideas on the place of visual culture in contemporary cultural studies and language and culture studies with the expert group and department, and you will actively contribute to the improvement and further development of the curriculum. Furthermore, you will carry out administrative tasks. 

Profile

• You have a PhD in the humanities, preferably in the field of arts and cultural studies or media studies. Knowledge of arts policy, creative industry, music, digital culture, tourism and/or performing arts is recommended.
• You are able to teach at Bachelor's and Master's level.
• You have teaching experience with cultural studies subjects and research methods, and with supervising theses and internships.
• You have a University Teaching Qualification (BKO) or similar certificate or are willing to obtain one.
• You believe it is important that students can work in an inclusive learning environment and you adjust your teaching methods accordingly.
• You are able and willing to carry out education support tasks within the programmes.
• You have a good command of both spoken and written Dutch and English.
• You are committed, communicative and you work well together with students and colleagues in the expertise group, the department and faculty, and with partners outside the university.

We are

The Faculty of Arts is committed to knowledge production with a significant scientific and social impact. With over 500 academic and support staff, we teach and conduct research in the fields of history and art, languages and cultures, and linguistics and communication using innovative methodologies and working in close collaboration between the disciplines. Our research is embedded in two research institutes: the Centre for Language Studies (CLS) and the Radboud Institute for Culture & History (RICH) . We currently have approximatively 2,500 students, enrolled in three departments: the Department of History, Art History and Classics, the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures, and the Department of Language and Communication. We aim to contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive world, which is why we especially seek applications from candidates who bring diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and skills that will be assets to our study programmes and research profiles. The Literary and Cultural Studies Expert Group teaches contemporary culture, cultural theory and cultural history in relation to literature, film, music, the performing arts and visual and media culture. The group members do so within the Bachelor's programme in General Cultural Studies, various faculty minor programmes, the Master's specialisations in Creative Industries, Art Policy and Business, and Tourism and Culture, the Master's programme in Literature and the Research Master's programme in Historical, Literary and Cultural Studies. These programmes focus on art and culture in the broadest sense, with attention to the form and content of art and culture, the appreciation of art and culture, and the historical and social contexts of art and culture. Our students have broad interests, an active learning attitude and like to connect disciplines. Most of them will later find work in the sociocultural sector in the Netherlands or abroad. The Expert Group is part of the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures. Research in the aforementioned fields is concentrated in the Radboud Institute for Culture & History (RICH).

We offer

• Employment for 0.6 FTE.
• The gross monthly salary amounts to a minimum of €3,821 and a maximum of €5,230 based on a 38-hour working week, depending on previous education and number of years of relevant work experience (salary scale 11 ).
• You will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
• It concerns a temporary employment for 1 year, with the prospect of a temporary extension for a maximum of 3 years.
• You will be able to use our Dual Career and Family Care Services . Our Dual Career and Family Care Officer can assist you with family-related support, help your partner or spouse prepare for the local labour market, provide customized support in their search for employment  and help your family settle in Nijmegen.
• Working for us means getting extra days off. In case of full-time employment, you can choose between 29 or 41 days of annual leave instead of the legally allotted 20.
